Instructor coaching a client on the reformer at J Pilates Ghansoli

Quick answer

What Is Private Pilates?

Private Pilates at J Pilates is one-on-one work, customised to your body and movement goals — the most personal way to learn Reformer technique, ask questions and progress with undivided attention.

The value is not secrecy. It is eyes on your pattern for a full session. Cueing can slow down, springs can change mid-exercise, and you are not matching anyone else’s range.

Introduction

A More Personalized Experience

Private sessions exist for people who want the hour to belong to one body. Beginners use them to learn the machine without guessing. Experienced movers use them when a goal needs more time than a shared sequence allows.

This is still Pilates, not physiotherapy. If you need a clinical lens, see physiotherapy. If you want company and a diary anchor, see group Pilates.

The J Pilates philosophy — intention, consistency, confidence — shows up here as patience. One instructor, your pace, the same 50–60 minute length as other studio hours.

How Do Private Sessions Work?

01

Arrive

You take a reformer. The instructor has the whole hour to set you up.

02

Observe

How you move that day shapes the sequence more than a generic class plan.

03

Adapt

Springs, range and apparatus (including chair work when it is useful) can change inside the session.

04

Refine

There is space to repeat a pattern until it makes sense — not to collect volume.

05

Plan

You leave knowing whether to stay private, mix with group, or book the trial into a block.

What to Expect

Before

Before your session

Say if you are new, returning, pregnant, or working with a clinician. Wear clothing you can move in.

During

During your session

Dedicated instructor attention, movement chosen around that hour, and time to ask what a spring setting means.

After

After your session

Decide whether the next hour stays private. Consistency can remain one-to-one or move into a small group.

Movement With Intention

Move with intention. Build with consistency. Live with confidence.

In a private hour, intention is the unused extra repetition. You stop when the pattern is honest. Consistency is booking the next private or a group that you can actually attend. Confidence is knowing the setup well enough that the machine is no longer the scary part.

Ghansoli photographs of coaching on the reformer show that teaching style. Sanpada offers the same one-to-one format in the arched reformer room. Read about the studios, meet the founder, or ask how to book a private hour.

One-to-One Attention

The J Pilates private training experience is still a Reformer hour: springs, straps, a moving carriage, about 50–60 minutes. What changes is the ratio. There is no shared sequence to keep. If you need a pause to understand a spring, you take it. If a pattern is already familiar, the instructor can move on.

People with specific movement goals — more organised standing work, a clearer sense of the footbar, or simply not wanting to share the first visits — often start here. That is teaching, not a medical protocol. Mix with group classes when you want a diary anchor, or stay private if that is the calmer week.

Questions

Private Pilates FAQ

What is private Pilates?

A one-on-one J Pilates session, customised to your body, goals and pace, usually on the Reformer.

Who should consider private Pilates?

First-time clients, people who prefer individual cueing, and anyone with a specific movement goal they want to address with focused attention.

Is private Pilates good for beginners?

Yes. A private first session is often the calmest introduction to springs and setup.

How is it different from group Pilates?

Private work is undivided attention. Group work is shared pace in a small batch. Many people use private hours to learn, then join group.

How long is a session?

About 50–60 minutes.

What should I wear?

Comfortable activewear that allows free movement.

Do you offer a movement assessment?

Elevate packages include a complimentary posture and flexibility assessment. InBody is a separate listed service. This page does not invent other screening products.

Is this medical treatment?

No. Private Pilates is skilled teaching, not a clinical appointment. Physiotherapy is listed separately.

Where is it available?

Sanpada and Ghansoli.

How do I book?

Book on the J Pilates platform and request a private session, or enquire with the studio.

Can I mix private and group?

Yes. Many clients do both across a package.
